EIC Accelerator

Call for Startups and Small and Medium-sized Enterprises developing innovative products or services.

Individual companies

1 partecipant per project,

no consortium required, subcontractors admitted.

New products or services based on radical innovations

New products or services based on radical innovations, scientific discoveries, or disruptive technologies (“deep tech”).

 

Prototyping & Testing

The technology must be in the prototyping and testing phase (TRL 5 or higher). A filed or granted patent is recommended.

Non-repayable grant for product development

Up to €2.5 million (covering 70% of direct costs + 25% of indirect costs). Investment from the EIC Fund (equity), ranging from €0.5 to €10 million for industrialization, production, commercialization, and scale-up.

3 stages evaluation

Short proposal (continuous submission), full proposal (2 deadlines per year), pitch and interview with the Commission.


EIC Pathfinder

Call that funds the early stages of research and development of breakthrough technologies.

Pathfinder Open

Consortia composed of at least three partners from three different countries within the European Union or countries associated with the Horizon Europe programme.

Pathfinder Challenges

Single companies (SMEs only) or consortia composed of at least two partners from three different countries within the European Union or countries associated with the Horizon Europe programme. Consortia may include companies of any size (startups, research institutions, universities, etc.).

 

Research & Technological Development

Early stages of research and scientific development of a radically new, high-potential technology, with concrete and measurable long-term goals.

TRL1

The research approach and methodology must be defined (TRL 1).

Non-repayable grant for product R&D

Up to €3 million (or €4 million in the case of Pathfinder Challenges), covering 100% of direct costs + a 25% flat rate for indirect costs, for concept development, basic research, technology formulation, scaled prototype, and publications.

Funds to be used over 36 months to demonstrate that the core ideas behind the envisioned future technology are feasible in practice and to validate the scientific and technological foundations of the project (TRL 4). 50% of the grant is paid upfront.

Submission with fixed deadlines

Project submission according to the deadlines set each year by the Commission.

Typically two deadlines per year (Q1 and Q4).


EIC Transition

Call that funds the development of technologies resulting from previous European Commission projects (EIC Pathfinder, FET, or ERC Proof of Concept).

Individual companies or small consortia

Transition Open and Challenges:

Individual applicants (SMEs, spin-offs, startups, research institutions, universities) or small consortia of at least two partners established in different countries within the European Union or countries associated with the Horizon Europe programme.

Consortia with more than five members and large enterprises are not eligible.

 

Advancing development of research results

Innovative projects starting from the early stages of technology maturation and validation through to commercialization.

TRL 4

The technology must be prototyped and tested in a laboratory or in a simulated environment representative of real-world conditions (TRL 4). The applicant must demonstrate ownership, intellectual property rights (patent and prior art analysis), or have the necessary rights to commercialize the product/service (exclusive license).

Non-repayable grant for product development and validation

Up to €2.5 million, covering 100% of direct costs + a 25% flat rate for indirect costs, to support the transition from a small-scale prototype tested in a simulated environment to a large-scale prototype tested in an operational setting.

Funds to be used over 24 months to demonstrate that the technology is effective for its intended application (TRL 5/6) and to validate an initial business model in preparation for further market development.

More than 50% of the grant is paid upfront.

Typically two deadlines per year (Q1 and Q4).


Eureka Eurostars

Call that funds Research and Development projects for breakthrough technologies in any technological field.

Small consortia including SMEs from different EU countries

SMEs in consortium with at least one other partner (SME, large company, university, or research institution) from another European Union country or a country associated with the Horizon Europe programme. All participants must have at least one filed financial statement.

Industrial research & experimental development

Industrial research activities (research, development, prototyping) and experimental development (testing, intellectual property management, and certification) of new products, processes, or services with high potential market impact.

Proof of concept

The technology must be at least at the proof-of-concept stage.

Grant for research and development

The EUREKA EUROSTARS program offers non-repayable funding to accelerate the commercialization of cutting-edge technologies by covering a portion of eligible project costs, including R&D, prototyping, testing, and validation activities.

The specific funding rates and conditions vary by country but typically support transnational partnerships involving at least two participants from different EUROSTARS countries. Typical grant ranges from 100 to 300 K€ per participant.
